This year, the five Oscar-nominated short films are cold weather oriented as they take place in northern areas of the world (Ivalu, Night Ride, An Irish Goodbye) or in winter (Le Pupille). The Disney/Alfonso Cúaron produced film which is also the longest of the selection takes places in Italy. It was cute but I think the one called Ivalu will win the Oscar. It seems the most unique of all five films. It takes place in Greenland where they speak Kalaallisut or Greenlandic. The scenery is breathtaking. The music is beautiful. The main young actress carries the film on her shoulders. It’s haunting, heavy but touching in the end. Overall though, all five films were great and for that, it’s tough to pick a winner.
